“We can’t do this without you – please help share the load,” says tvCentral CEO Daryl Anderson about its recent fundraising campaign launch.

Under the charitable trust, Kaimai Family Television Network Trust, tvCentral relies on funding and sponsorship to cover its numerous broadcasting costs.

It is currently seeking $250,000 to cover the following year’s transmission and broadcasting fees. These are new costs associated with broadcasting from Mt Te Aroha, a move tvCentral made late last year.

Originally tvCentral broadcasted from the Kaimai Ranges into the Matamata rural basin under the name FamilyTV. Transmission from Mt Te Aroha opened up tvCentral’s broadcast area to encompass Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

Mr Anderson says he understands people are constantly asked for money to help support charity or non for profit organisations, but he says this is a chance for people who favour regional community television to become more than just a viewer.

“As we now reach a much greater area and with the associated increase in costs, this is about giving us a hand up by becoming a supporter or financial sponsor of tvCentral,” he says.

“Regional stations receive one percent of the broadcasting allocated funds, $4 million over three years, from New Zealand on Air to help cover these costs, but the 13 regional stations in New Zealand share this one percent, leaving us with $70,000 per annum to use. It costs us around $100,000 to produce one show over a 48 week period.”

“We do not see tvCentral as a money making or self gratifying media, we work closely with the communities in our broadcasting area to help them get their opinions, events and issues on air”.
