tvCentral joins freeview|HD
2 April 2008

tvCentral

tvCentral has joined 12 other channels which will screen on New Zealand’s free to air digital television and radio platform.

The Matamata based Waikato and Bay of Plenty regional channel launched on freeview|HD today (April 2). As a family safe channel, it caters for all age groups and genres and is made up of 30 per cent local content.

Television Media Group CEO Daryl Anderson says the arrival of Freeview is an exciting milestone in New Zealand broadcasting and is thrilled tvCentral is part of it.

“It is awesome to be on such a leading edge platform with the national networks, where we can now potentially reach over 10 per cent of the country being the first regional station in New Zealand on the platform.”
Mr Anderson says the arrival of Freeview will not mean you will miss out on watching your favourite regional channel on standard UHF.

“Our analogue signal will run in parallel with the digital signal until about 2012, when the Government envisage turning all analogue signals off.”

freeview|HD is New Zealand’s first high definition capable digital service. It aims to provide crystal clear digital quality pictures and sounds on all channels.
